ESOPHAGEAL & STOMACH DISORDERS

Achalasia Cardia

Comprehensive Care for Esophageal & Stomach Disorders

The esophagus (food pipe) and stomach are essential parts of the digestive system, helping transport, digest, and process food. Disorders affecting these organs can cause symptoms such as heartburn, acidity, upper abdominal pain, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, difficulty swallowing, or gastrointestinal bleeding. While many conditions are easily treatable, persistent symptoms should never be ignored, as they may indicate a more serious underlying disease. Dr. Dipankar Das provides comprehensive evaluation and evidence-based treatment for a wide range of esophageal and stomach disorders using advanced diagnostic endoscopy, modern imaging techniques, and personalized treatment plans tailored to each patient's needs.

What is Achalasia?

Achalasia is a rare swallowing disorder in which the lower esophageal sphincter fails to relax properly, preventing food and liquids from entering the stomach. Although symptoms usually develop gradually, effective treatments are available.

Common Signs & Symptoms

Difficulty swallowing solids and liquids
Regurgitation of undigested food
Chest pain
Weight loss
Night-time coughing

Common Causes & Risk Factors

The exact cause is unknown, but it is believed to result from degeneration of the nerves controlling the esophagus.

How is it diagnosed?

1Upper GI Endoscopy
2High-Resolution Esophageal Manometry
3Barium Swallow Study

Treatment

POEM (Peroral Endoscopic Myotomy)
Pneumatic Balloon Dilatation
Laparoscopic Heller's Myotomy
